Amfora Cup International football tournament

Amfora Cup International football tournament

Porec, Croatia

Teams looking for an international youth football tournament in a relaxed environment need look no further than the Istra Cup and the Amfora Cup. Right beside the centuries-old harbour town of Porec in the heart of the Istrian coast lies the sports and holiday centre Zelena Laguna. Various professional teams set up their training camps here, as on occasion does the Croatian national team. But at Easter and Whitsun, the complex is completely reserved for young people. With a 15-year history, the tournaments have become a rendezvous for old friends.

The Amfora Cup is organised by NK Banjole in cooperation with the Istrian Football Association and the municipality of Porec.

The international Istra Cup youth football tournament takes place in Porec at the three football fields of sports complex Zelena Laguna in the municipality of Porec. Touristic information

The Croatian town of Porec is located on a lagoon on the west coast of Istria. The city with 12,500 inhabitants is surrounded by beautiful green countryside and has a mild Mediterranean climate. The history of Porec goes back a long way: Roman remains can be found at various places. A famous place of interest in Porec is the St. Euphrasius Basilica dating back to the 6th Century. In 1996, this basilica was added to the world heritage list of UNESCO. The basilica is internationally known for its beautiful Byzantine mosaics.

Istria is the largest peninsula of the Adriatic Sea and is the most westerly province of Croatia. Istria has no less than 445 kilometres of coastline, which makes it a very popular holiday destination, especially among sun worshippers. Pula, Porec and Umag are the main tourist resorts. Istria is lush with lots of unspoilt countryside, lakes and waterfalls, centuries old culture and very hospitable people.

Visit Venice

Neighbouring country Italy lies at the opposite side of the Adriatic Sea, but is not that far away so an excursion to romantic Venice is easily arranged from Umag. The modern catamaran service will take you there in 40 minutes and regular excursions are organised from Umag each week, taking in all the hot spots of Venice. It should not to be missed!
